In 1968, Jonas Jurašas, a young and charismatic director, staged the play “Mammoth Hunt” at the Kaunas Theatre. The play was a great success: tickets were sold out and praise for the play spread quickly. However, the management of the time considered this popularity to be dangerous and decided to ban “Mammoth Hunt”. The troupe secretly gathers in the theatre at night and performs the play one last time in front of the camera – it is recorded. Unfortunately, the film mysteriously disappears and the director is soon forced to leave not only the theatre but also Lithuania. The film “Mammoth Hunt” is a journey through time that attempts to solve one of the most interesting and dramatic mysteries of Lithuanian theatre.
