ENSEMBLE PALEASIS
was founded in 2022 on the initiative of internationally acclaimed charismatic piano virtuoso Alexander Paley (USA-France). “This is not a one-off project, but an ensemble that rehearses regularly, performs concerts, and continues to improve—it is my long-held dream. I am very happy that this dream has come true in Lithuania. I brought together 11 professional musicians, like-minded people with the goal of performing well-known and rarely performed classical music masterpieces and premieres that are still being created,” says the virtuoso about the circumstances surrounding the ensemble’s formation.

The ensemble made its debut on June 26, 2022, at a concert of the Pažaislis Music Festival held at the Kaunas State Philharmonic. Paleasis actively performs throughout Lithuania, and in its two years of existence, the ensemble has become a guest of audiences in many of Lithuania’s major cities and surrounding towns. In March 2023, Paleasis went on its first tour to the pianist’s native Moldova, performing at the Chisinau Philharmonic, where the ensemble was highly praised by both the audience and critics, who called the concert “undeniably amazing and unforgettable.” Paleasis also received excellent reviews during its tour in France at the Moulin d’Ande festival, where their performance was described as “not festival-level, but philharmonic-level.”

Paleasis stands out for its unique combination of professional musicians in Lithuania, which allows them to transform their music-making into a kind of chamber music laboratory, opening up a wide repertoire and opportunities to get to know each other better. The ensemble’s unconventional vision and composition, made up of the country’s most accomplished academic musicians, allows it to perform a wide range of chamber music. The ensemble’s repertoire includes works by the great European classics, as well as rarely performed but no less significant composers such as Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Louis Spohr, Isaac Ignaz Moscheles, Alexander Zemlinsky, and Conradino Kreutzer, as well as works by Lithuanian composers Balys Dvarionas, Stasys Vainiūnas, Jeronimas Kačinskas, Onutė Narbutaitė, and Loreta Narvilaitė.
