From 25 to 28 September, around 80 representatives from more than 20 European artists’ colonies gathered in Katwijk, one of the oldest and most significant artists’ colonies in the Netherlands.
Florian Hartmann, Lord Mayor of Dachau and President of Euroart, opened the official part of the weekend. Pierre Bedouelle, outgoing Secretary General, highlighted the importance of art and international cooperation, especially in the face of global challenges such as the war in Ukraine and the climate crisis.
A new steering committee was elected: four members were re-elected and three new members joined. Pierre Bedouelle stepped down as Secretary General and was succeeded by Vincent Tuijp, alderman for culture in Edam-Volendam and long-standing Euroart member. With his extensive network and expertise, Tuijp aims to lead Euroart into the next four years: “Putting ideas into practice is my strength,” he says. In his new role, he will professionalize the network, strengthen cooperation among European artists’ colonies, and highlight the importance of art and culture for society.
In working groups, participants discussed topics such as cultural tourism, museum collaboration, and contemporary art. Politicians within the network exchanged ideas on shared challenges, generating practical solutions and new initiatives.
A cultural programme rounded off the meeting, including visits to Katwijk’s museums with their outstanding historic collections, and the DUNAatelier, showcasing contemporary artists.
“We want to work together even more closely in future and intensify our joint marketing.” The meeting strengthened the network, inspired new ideas, and provided important impetus for future collaboration. Once again, it became clear: together we are strong.
